I remember being fifteen and reading ‘On The Road’ for the first time and mentioning this passage to my Mom, thinking it was pretty great, since I was frustratingly normal and introverted and enjoyed the company of interesting, manic types. 

My Mom said “those people will end up owing you money.”

At fifteen, I thought this was awfully square and cynical of my Mom. 

At twenty-one, I think this is one of the greatest things she’s ever said.
