watching mad men with my parents
is THE WORST. they make comments constantly, and i’d say about half the time they’re judging the actions of the women on the show, far more harshly than they judge the men. when betty had an affair, my mom made snide remarks, and i said “what? and all the men who’ve had affairs don’t justify disgust?” my dad replied to this with “women are ladies, men are pigs.” i’ve come to realize that more than the show depressing me it’s the reactions of my parents. and the constant reminders that we haven’t come as far as the show would like us to think.
