buxombibliophile replied to your post: watching mad men with my parents
Oh God. :/
i know right? i was fuming. sometimes i feel like they really just don’t get it. i’ve had to defend betty’s behavior before, because i find her really interesting. my mom is like oh she’s such a bitch, she’s such a child, etc. and i’ve read that a lot on the internet too, that people really don’t like her. and i’m like what. you’re oversimplifying it. she’s a profoundly fucked up human being because she has so little agency in her own life. she’s deeply sad and angry and she doesn’t totally know why. she isn’t a great person but there are reasons for that. and it’s like, they are understanding and sympathetic about that with the men, but the women, they won’t be. such shit. and it just proves how little people are really taking from the show. and how i think that’s partly the fault of most people’s conditioned sexism and partly because for all the show’s “look at this! look how wrong this is!” unsubtle writing, it’s a very pretty package and i think anything it says gets lost in pretty people in pretty sixties clothing. jon hamm banging ladies. and shots of christina hendricks’ ass. /rant

I need to watch more of it. I’ve only seen a few episodes. I’m obsessed with the clothing, though.
